For my Web Graphic Design students, I’ve noticed that recently we web designers are more and more faced with the Big Question: html or content managed?
(html usually used for simple, informational sites; generally static, maybe some flash animation, but mostly straight forward.)
(content managed meaning something the client can input content like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, GoDaddy Websites tonight, etc.)
Many factors come into play like design limitations, programming etc., but the first thing to ask your clients is “what do you want to do with this site?” (things like: sell product, have photo slide shows, a calendar, blog, etc.) Basically, the more things that they want to put in and maintain themselves will drive them to a content managed site. When they just want to show off product, info and not regularly update it, html is the way to go.
We’ll get into the more detailed differences and do’s and don’t's later, otherwise, this is critical to start thinking about as you develop your design biz.
always thinking design,
